How Many Weeks Do You Need to Prepare for IELTS in the Philippines?
For most students, 4 to 12 weeks of focused IELTS preparation is a realistic plan — but the right number for you depends on two things: your English level today and the band score you need. If you are already upper-intermediate (B2) and need a small step up, a few weeks of exam practice can make a real difference. If your level is lower, build your general English first, then switch to exam preparation. Here is how to work it out.
Start with your level, not the test date
IELTS preparation works best when you already have a solid base. We usually suggest an upper-intermediate (B2) level or higher before you start an exam course. Exam practice teaches you how the test works, how to manage your time and how to avoid common mistakes — but it cannot replace the vocabulary and grammar you need to reach a higher band.

How many weeks? A rough guide
Everyone learns at a different speed, so treat this table as a rough guide only, not a promise. Your teacher will give you a more personal plan once they know your strengths and weaknesses.
| Your starting point | Suggested plan (rough guide) |
|---|---|
| B2 or higher, need a small improvement or more confidence | 2–4 weeks of IELTS preparation, finishing just before your test |
| B2, need a clearly higher band | 4–8 weeks or more of IELTS preparation |
| B1 (intermediate) | Start with General or Intensive English to build your base, then switch to IELTS preparation |
| A2 or below | Focus on general English first; plan IELTS for a later stay |
As a general rule, moving up even half a band usually takes many weeks of focused study and daily practice. Be careful of anyone who guarantees a score in a very short time.
How our IELTS course works
Our IELTS, TOEIC & Business program combines two one-to-one lessons a day, focused on your exam, with two group classes in grammar, vocabulary, reading or discussion. That is 20 lessons a week.
Your one-to-one teacher works on the parts of the exam you need most, whether that is writing tasks, speaking practice, reading speed or listening. The same course also prepares you for TOEIC, TOEFL, FCE and CAE, or for business English.

Why one-to-one time matters for IELTS
IELTS rewards specific skills. In writing, small, repeated mistakes cost points. In speaking, fluency and confidence matter as much as grammar. Daily one-to-one lessons mean a teacher reads your essays, corrects your answers and practises speaking with you every single day — something that is rare and expensive in many other countries.
Outside class you keep practising. English is an official language of the Philippines and is spoken everywhere on Boracay, so your listening and speaking keep improving long after your lessons end.
How to practise outside class
Your lessons give you structure, but the hours outside class make a big difference too. Simple habits that help:
- Write a little every day and ask your teacher to correct it in your next one-to-one lesson.
- Talk to everyone: classmates, shop staff, your e-trike driver. English is spoken all over Boracay, so speaking practice is free.
- Keep a vocabulary notebook of new words with example sentences, and review it before bed.
- Do timed practice at the weekend, so test timing feels normal by exam day.
- Rest well. A swim or a sunset walk after a long day of study helps you stay fresh for weeks of preparation.
Plan your test date first
The IELTS test itself is taken with an official IELTS test provider — Paradise English prepares you for the exam, but you do not take the test at our school. The best plan is:
- Book your test date first with an official provider.
- Plan your course to finish shortly before the test, so everything you practised is fresh on test day.
- Count backwards from the test date using the rough guide above to decide how many weeks you need.
What it costs
In 2026 our IELTS, TOEIC & Business course costs $356 for one week and $795 for four weeks, our biggest discount. Each extra week after that costs $199. Add the registration fee ($130) and the Special Study Permit (about $200), plus your accommodation.
For example, 8 weeks of IELTS preparation would be four weeks at $795 plus four extra weeks at $199 each. All rates are on our 2026 price page, and rooms are on the accommodation page.
Below B2? Do this first
If your level test shows B1 or lower, don’t worry — you are not too late, you just need a different first step. Intensive English (seven classes a day) is our fastest way to build your level, and General English (five classes a day) is a balanced option. If you want to do both in one stay, ask us and we will suggest a plan.
Why prepare in Boracay?
Studying for an exam is hard work, so where you study matters. On Boracay you study in the morning with a focused teacher, and in the afternoon the beach is minutes away. A calm, beautiful place makes long weeks of preparation much easier to keep up. Read more in our guide to IELTS preparation in Boracay, or compare destinations in Boracay vs Cebu vs Baguio.
